URGENT: Army Corps of Engineers Permit Information
We packed the Senior Center with T-shirts and signs and let the Army Corps of Engineers know that we will not let our sacred sites be desecrated, our water sources contaminated or our wildlife eliminated! For nearly three hours over 50 people testified on record in opposition to the landfill, with not a single person speaking in support. Several news outlets were there to cover the story; those articles can be seen here in the news section of the website. A video of several of the speakers from the evening can be seen here.
You can also read a copy of the remarks by Robert Smith, Chairman of the Pala Band of Mission Indians, as well as the testimony from Shasta Gaughen, Tribal Historic Preservation Officer for the Pala Band from the June 3 hearing. A summary of the hearing along with a few pictures for the Pala Band of Mission Indians Newsletter can be found here.
The deadline to submit written comments regarding the landfill was June 18, but it cannot hurt to continue to let them know this is a bad idea. You can also print out and mail a letter to the Army Corps of Engineers to let them know that we will not let San Diego's wild rivers and sacred sites be destroyed!!
Written comments can be mailed to:
